A Year with Fuchsias

Gareth Davies will look at hardy, half hardy and frost-tender (those commonly grown as annual bedding) varieties of fuchsia and give us a calendar of hints and tips for their cultivation. He is a member of the British Fuchsia Society and exhibits fuchsias

With a backdrop of its medieval house and laid out within the contours of a bowl-shaped valley, Allt-y-Bela is simple, intimate and romantic. From formal clipped topiary to native meadow planting, Arne’s design principles are nowhere better illustrated than here.

Rethinking Autumn in the Garden

Centring on asters, Helen Picton, of Old Court Nurseries, will also look at some other late flowering plants, small trees and shrubs planted purposely to set these off.
A specialist aster nursery since 1906, Old Court holds the Plant Heritage National Collection of over 430 varieties of aster.

Climbing plants and wall shrubs bring high-rise beauty to our gardens. Gordon Malt will show us how to choose the right site and soil, how to support them, and how to feed, maintain and propagate them.
Gordon is a retired tree surgeon who trained at the Royal Botanic Gardens.
